Consultancy Pathways

Decoding myself.

Let’s start at the beginning, my passion photography. Below I have divided my photos that I’ve taken – what I applied within my photography and below how this helps me as a designer.

Photography

Pop colour

Colour Theory/Psychology

Attention to Detail

Different Perspective

Story telling

Visual Communication

Creativity

Hierarchy

Communication

I have always had an interest in revealing the unseen within my photography which has made me wonder whether I would be good at logo/brand design.

At the moment I still an unsure but when I start to create my presentation I will think further about what I want to do and discover the opportunities provided to me.

2050 In Sight

By 2050 Half of the world – around 5 billion people will need glasses as they will be nearsighted (Myopic).

Half the world will be myopic by 2050.

Names on boards/walls for runners taking part in a half marathon

Images from Paris and Oxford Half Marathon.

I thought it was clever how they easily showed and grouped the names so it was easier for people to find their names.

This would be beneficial so people wouldn’t spend ages finding their names for them to give up and decrease the interaction.

Regarding past generations myopia was viewed as a strength as individuals were able to perform close up tasks. This allowed for precise detailed work such as;

  • Painting bibles
  • Illuminating manuscripts

Critical Review – Ace and Tate

Reading an article about how the opticians Ace and Tate are changing the way we buy glasses and the innovation we need for the eyewear market.

The article talks about how opticians have become outdated and clinical. The choices are limited and pricing is opaque with ‘optional’ (usually argued as essential) features – anti-glare lens coating etc.

Ace and Tate are offering a more fashionable experience compared to Specsavers and Vision Express.

Funnily enough my pair of glasses and sunglasses are from Ace and Tate, at the time when purchasing them I hadn’t of read the article and didn’t know anything about the brand.

Neuromarketing – Martin Lecture

08/03/24

Neuromarketing Defined

Neuro (the brain)

Measuring brain response to marketing ads.

Marketing tips/decisions based on neuroscience, neuromarketing, behavioural economics, psychology, knowledge but not actual measures.

  • Facial Coding
  • Eye Tracking – where they look in an image (track movement of eye)
  • Voice analysts
  • Lie detector
  • EEG – sensors
  • MRI

  • Identify the pain (What does this person want)
  • Figure out what the intensity of the pain
  • Determine how urgent the pain is
  • Ensuring that the project acknowledges the pain
  • Not what they want but what pains, fears or wants exists at a reptilian level

I’ve changed what the shopper had in mind compared to what they were physically able to touch (changed how mens clothes are folded so men would feel less stressed about picking up clothes and not being able to fold them back).

Advertisers are using our human condition.

  • The importance of eye gaze
  • Using effective packaging
  • Colour is key
  • Evaluating satisfaction

My Team

As a group we came up with the name/title called: Precipice: Transforming numbers into narratives.

DATA CHIP

Data Chip is a device used for storing data.

I used my instagram QR code for our golden chip idea to test out the idea and have something to present to people visually so they could understand it further etc.

I came up with the idea using the statement below to produce a ticket that says ‘Thank You for your Data‘.

This originated from the idea of because the exhibition is free, its not actually free as we take their data from them which nowadays businesses and companies do all the time.

An example is instagram, instagram is free to use but they take data from you to set a specific algorithm based upon your data.

Presentation for presenting to other groups.

Eyes to Brain

The glasses I ordered with the lowest and highest prescription came which I tired on both and experimented with seeing things through the vision of the glasses.

What I found was the glasses with the +3.50 prescription you can not see anything around you unless you are very close up.

Meaning in the Crowd – human behaviour

The relationship between an individual and the community.

  • Own our decision making
  • How humans relate to other humans

Controlling Mechanisms of the crowd.

Control – Agency or Power over

Guilt – Something one has or hasn’t done

Shame – fallen short off – fantasy or being degraded / exposed

Courage – Bravery

If we are isolated from the group we are not included. There is a primary need to be accepted by the group (everyone). We may have to hide or lessen / not show things that would be seen to not be accepted. A compromise has to be made to be accepted into the group.

We don’t want to feel guilty so what do we do? We find somebody else – its easier to find someone else to take the responsibility of guilt.

Shame sets boundaries – intimacy and intimate spaces. We need shame as it polices what’s right and wrong. Social space.

ESSAY

Thesis statement – Appeal the reader what the paper is about and allows you to focus your mind into that essay – the content.

  • A tool for me – define what the essay will contain.
  • It tells you what you’re looking at and what an argument is about.
  • Every word has to be right.
  • Sense of what is happening in the paper.
  • What critical design theory are you going to talk about
  • The voice of reader and how the theory will inform

We went through the thesis statements we wrote for MACD103: Boundaries. The best one is the top one.

Ideas

Creating a specific space of work

I thought about curating my space to make the audience do the 20-20-20 rule. Using objects, I can use my space in which to arrange the objects in an intentional and artful way so people can be guided through the 20-20-20 rule so they are interacting with the topic. I want them to immerse themselves.

The environment that my installation focuses on is: Indoor and outdoor.

  • How can I convey a message through the way these items are placed in their environment?
  • How can I create a message with my installation
  • What is my environment going to be?
  • How can I place objects within the space to speak to the audience?
  • How can I arrange objects to create a visual message.
  • Where does my path of objects begin and end?
  • What feeling do my chosen objects evoke?

NARRATIVE

Immersive Art

  • Interactivity
  • Experiential engagement
  • Immersive experience

Creative expression

Designing an environment.

The different places we find objects can influence the way we look at the objects (TATE).

Marcel Duchamp

He created a new thought for objects. Duchamp challenged people to think about art in new ways.

His work ‘readymades‘ (art that is ready-made) didn’t need to be created with his own hands, they were already existing works.

Man Ray

Uncanny objects

Man Ray added a photograph of an eye onto a metronome making the object strangely unsettling. He made the sculpture after his girlfriend left him so the object proposes the difficulty he had in forgetting her.

Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud’s theory

The theory suggests that ordinary, everyday objects become unsettling or disturbing if presented in unexpected ways or placed in unexpected situations.

Lettering on everyday objects

Prototypes

I played around with different concepts.
